I don't think I should have to mention it but if it helps identify the cause of the freezing, here's a list of the issues I wanted to get rid of by reformatting (all of which have been resolved by the reformat): With or without the issue, everything else seemed completely fine. Attaching either or both of the drives either before or after installing the OS would cause freezing when restarting or shutting down. I force reboot again, and the same thing happens when I shut down, the laptop would freeze after the screen turns off.Īfter several reinstallations and different installers, I noticed that this issue wouldn't happen when I only had my OS SSD attached to my laptop when the data HDDs (one in the main drive bay, another in a HDD caddy replacing the old DVD drive) were removed. But after i reach the desktop and restart to apply some settings, the laptop would freeze after the screen turns off and the keyboard and led indicators stay lit. ![]() I decided to reformat my laptop to clean up the OS drive and get rid of old OS issues, and mysteriously my laptop froze just after the windows installation completed and did the 10 second countdown before restarting my laptop.Īfter forcing it off and booting up again, the installation seems to have worked, with windows doing its usual setup, and the other drives read and open just fine.
